The number of yearly college admissions has grown increasingly, with nearly 20 million individuals enrolling in 2019. While this increase in college admissions is beneficial to the almost 4,000 degree-granting institutions in the United States, there are still significant racial gaps within college success and acceptance rates.

According to research gathered by The Education Trust, 70% of white students earned a degree after six years, compared to only 51.5% for African American and Latino students. Additionally, a study on federal student loan default rates showed nearly six times higher among African American graduates than White graduates.

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is working to change these statistics by awarding scholarships worth more than $100 million to more than 10,000 students each year and providing financial support to dozens of historically Black colleges and universities.
