STEM and Technology Scholarship for Native Hawaiians

The primary objective of the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship is to encourage Native Hawaiians to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or Technology in general.

The scholarship is recurring in nature. In other words, recipients receive $1,000 per year until they graduate.

What’s happening: Paubox, a leading provider of HIPAA compliant email solutions, launched their scholarship here on Scholar’s App in 2019. The scholarship began with one recipient, Nick Wong

Now in its sixth year, the scholarship has grown to 28 active recipients and three graduates.

Scholarship demographics:

In a nutshell, a prototypical Paubox Kahikina Scholarship recipient is wahine, attends college on the mainland, and graduated from a private school on Oʻahu.

The big ideas: Trends that don’t change are big ideas. These big ideas are simple and obvious. Yet they are worth paying attention to, even if they appear banal.

The big ideas behind the scholarship are financial aid and access to the Paubox professional network.

For example, ten years from now there is a zero percent chance a recipient will come up and say, “I really love the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship, but could you provide less financial aid?”

The same goes for an awardee asking, “Iʻm a big fan of the scholarship, but could you do away with access to your professional network?”

In the case of Paubox, we can build a resounding network of Native Hawaiians in STEM and technology around these big ideas that remain stable over time.
